If you’re anything like me, you’re always looking for meals that check all the boxes: delicious, nourishing, easy to make, and packed with protein. This High-Protein Edamame Avocado Pesto has become one of my favorite recipes because it does exactly that.
Traditional pesto is undeniably delicious, but it’s often heavy on oil and cheese. This plant-based version gets its rich, creamy texture from avocado and shelled edamame instead. The result is a vibrant green sauce that’s loaded with nutrients while providing a satisfying protein boost.
Whether you’re tossing it with your favorite pasta, spreading it on a sandwich, or using it as a dip, this pesto is one of those recipes you’ll find yourself making again and again.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe
Not only is it incredibly creamy, but it’s also:
Packed with plant-based protein from edamame.
Full of heart-healthy fats from avocado.
Rich in fiber to help keep you satisfied.
Bright, fresh, and full of flavor.
Ready in just minutes with a food processor or blender.
Completely dairy-free and vegan.
Only 6 whole food ingredients
The Secret Ingredient: Edamame
Edamame is one of my favorite ingredients for creating high-protein meals without relying on processed protein powders. It’s naturally rich in protein, fiber, iron, folate, and other essential nutrients.
Blending edamame into pesto creates an incredibly smooth texture while making the sauce much more filling than traditional versions.
Avocado Makes Everything Better
Avocado adds a buttery richness while providing healthy monounsaturated fats that make this pesto feel indulgent without needing large amounts of oil.
Combined with fresh basil, garlic, lemon juice, and nutritional yeast, the flavor is bright, savory, and perfectly balanced.
Ways to Enjoy It
One of the reasons I love this recipe is how versatile it is. Try it:
Tossed with chickpea pasta.
Spread on sourdough or toasted bagels.
As a dip for fresh vegetables.
Mixed into grain bowls.
Spooned onto baked tofu or grilled vegetables.
As a sauce for wraps or sandwiches.
It also makes meal prep incredibly easy. Keep a batch in the refrigerator so you have a healthy sauce ready to transform simple ingredients into a satisfying meal.
Nutrition Doesn’t Have to Be Complicated
Eating more protein doesn’t mean every meal has to be complicated or filled with specialty ingredients. Sometimes the most nourishing recipes are made from simple whole foods that work beautifully together.
This pesto is proof that healthy eating can be colorful, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying.
